Community Wellness Center is delighted to host a quarterly Art Show that showcases local artists and artisans. Our walls are adorned with amazing art year round—all of which is available for your viewing and purchasing pleasure. We invite you to wander through our halls and experience the healing power of all of the beautiful pieces that grace our wellness center. Thank you to all of the artists that make the art shows so incredible!
At our most recent Art Show we had a contest in which the public voted for their favorite piece of art. It was a lot of fun to see everyone walking around, ballots in hand, toiling over this tough decision. The votes were cast and Sarah Miller won the popular vote. Her prize is an exclusive feature on our website.

Sarah is wrapping up a five year stint at Artdogs, an artist collective in Gardiner, where she has fully enjoyed being part of the Artdog and Water Street communities. She found the loft residence (and vice versa) through a series of synchronistic events and moved there to explore the intersection of her creativity with her larger life. While she does not consider herself a working artist, Sarah draws on her interests and training in sociology, photography, writing, psychology and the human form to create digital images, including an ongoing series of pregnant women. She was very involved in the development and coordination of the Gardiner Artwalks—a manifestation of her passion for building and nurturing vibrant communities.
Sarah received a BA in Sociology from Colby College and later went to the Downeast School of Massage and earned her Maine license in 2000. In April 2009, she received a master’s degree in Socially Responsible Business and Sustainable Communities with a focus on food and agriculture from Goddard College, Vermont. She is now involving herself in endeavors related to this field.
Sarah believes art—both the creation of and the exposure to—can be an avenue toward wellness. And that wellness can free up one’s creative expression. In the best sense, they build upon each other. For more, please visit the Artdogs website. Thanks for your interest in my work.
Marie is the "Giving" Winter 2009 Art Show Popular Vote Winner. Our "Giving" show was aptly named to correspond with a food drive that benefited those in our community.
I became interested in art during my early childhood and later began formal studies at the University of Maine at Augusta where I received my Associates Degree in studio art. Art has always been an important part of my life. I believe that I was born with a talent for art. I was always a “doodler” in school, and constantly did drawings to entertain myself while instructors lectured. Painting gives me a means of expressing the way I perceive the world around me. I enjoy painting images that are bold and bright, and I believe that color matches the emotions. Using my camera and sketchbook, I plan paintings and then work on them in my home studio.
Fast drying acrylics are my favorite medium. They work well for me because they allow me to compose as I go, sketching in paint, applying thin washes without having to wait long for layers to dry. I also create collages and drawings.
Driven by a need to create, I am a down-to-earth artist with an infectious spirit. My work is at once both decorative and emotionally vibrant. Working in various styles from whimsical to expressive to modern, I direct my energy toward creating the feeling that my vision dictates.

Joe was the "Beloved" Fall 2009 Art Show Popular vote winner. The artists submitted their favorite pieces of their own work and a small explanation about why it was their favorite. The submissions were incredible and the show was astoundingly beautiful.
It isn’t everyday that you meet an ex-cop from the Bronx who creates such masterpieces on canvas. Born in New York City, New York, Joe Brandt moved to Maine in 1982 where his journey into art truly began. After serving in the United States Navy, Joe was injured on the job while working as a police officer in New York. This injury restricted the use of his right arm for quite some time and it was only rehabilitation through art that renewed the use of his arm. Joe has been painting ever since.
Joe has won the People’s Choice award at the Harlow Gallery and at Community Wellness Center and is a member of the Kennebec Valley Art Association and the Harlow Gallery. His work has been displayed along the coast, in Richmond, Hallowell, at the Gardiner Art Walk and the Mile of Art at the University of Maine at Augusta. Stop by and see his wonderful pieces on display now.
